Falling Leaves

This work began as an experiment using splashes of warm colors, of opaque and transparent water based paint, along with ink on heavy weight watercolor paper. During the process as images appeared, they reminded me of the brightly colored leaves I observed during my youth when I walked through wooded areas near my home in the autumn.

First Born, painted during the summer of 1980, was inspired by a situation I encountered when I went to spend the summer with my mother after the death of my father. The painting reflects a beautiful young woman who has just recently experienced motherhood for the first time. My niece and her husband had moved in with my mother a few months earlier, and soon afterwards their first child was born...

In Love

As with other Cozart images In Love is a visual story of an experience or perception of a given situation. This one is a pastel creation of a young couple whose faces reflect strong emotional ties to each other. Bold flashes of brilliant color against a dark background lend atmosphere and add to the warmth between the two.

In Search of Knowledge

In Search of Knowledge is a pastel drawing. It's a composite of a photograph mixed with memories of stories that my father told me of his desire to get an education. The photo was found among a stack that were stored in our family trunk that consisted of people in my community during the pre and post World War I days. Although the young man shown here is unknown, I thought the suit was appropriate for illustrating the story. The books and the apple were from my imagination.
